Akemi Shibata's creative endeavors, including original patchwork designs, fabric dyeing and printing, and quilted accessories, have elevated her to become one of the top of quilt designers in Japan,. In addition to owning a quilt shop, the "AKEMI SHIBATA", located in Itami, Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, she also conducts patchwork workshops in the most major cities of Japan. Exhibitions of her works, a workshop for education certification, a lecture series, and trunk show talks are held many times every year abroad as well as at home. She has published magazines about patchwork in Japan that have been translated into Chinese, Thai and French much to the delight of quilters in these countries. She is well known for her patchwork use of taupe tones of color which are popular among quilters all over the world.

Taupe refers not just to a specific color, but to a style of fabric that uses a soft color palette and subtle designs. These fabrics are prized in Japan and are becoming sought after now in the US for their subdued look, with multiple colors and shades blending together. Most taupe fabrics will work well with other fabrics, even traditional Japanese Indigo, since the taupe, although typically having a dominant color, have shades of many other colors woven in them. Taupe color palette can include soft creams, off-whites, greys to rich browns, subtle rose shades to rich purples, and even reds. Hard to find in the US, we are pleased to offer taupe fabrics here at Quilting Foxes.
