Temari balls are a folk art form and Japanese craft, originating in China and introduced to Japan around the 7th century A.D. "Temari" means "hand ball" in Japanese. Balls made from embroidery may be used in handball games and other such similar games. Sakura or Cherry Blossoms are one of many favorite blooms of Japan. Here they both appear together and have been found as a traditional Japanese design elements throughout the history of Japan. This fabric is designated tone on tone Indigo because it has no strong accent colors and is very subtle and elegant. The 100 percent cotton fabric is commercially indigo dyed before printing which results in a usable solid indigo fabric back and no shrinkage.
